Decorating Inspiration: Checkerboard Floors

What is black and white and patterned all over? Hopefully the floors of my future home. Black and white checkerboard floors are nothing new when it comes to decor. The first floors appear in European paintings as early as the 15th century. The pattern itself has been found in pottery from the western region of Iran dating back to about 1500BC. Many of the homes which are included in this post are on the grander scale , but I think these floors can be incorporated in any size home. I love the impact of the black and white whether it is found in an entryway, kitchen, bathroom, or outdoor living space.  I prefer the traditional look of the checkerboard pattern, however, I do love some of the other patterns seen below.
