THIRSTY THURSDAY

In case you missed the memo, yesterday was National Margarita Day. Sadly I did not partake in this allotted day of appreciation, so I decided to dedicate today's post to this wonderful beverage. Whether you like it frozen or on the rocks with salt or without or regular versus fruity the margarita is the most common tequila-based cocktail in the US.

Mango Margarita

Yield: 1 margarita
Prep Time: 5-10 minutes
Total Time: 5-10 minutes

ingredients:

For the Mango Puree:
1 large ripe mango, peeled, pitted and coarse chopped
¼ cup fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons lemon juice
For the Mango Margarita:
2 ½ oz tequila
2 oz mango puree
1 ½ oz fresh orange juice
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz peach schnapps
Crushed ice

directions:

For the Mango Puree:
In a small food processor or blender, combine ingredients and puree vigorously (20 – 30 seconds). Pour puree into air tight container and store in the refrigerator. Shake well before using. NO STRAINING REQUIRED (Hallelujah!).
For the Mango Margarita:
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass or cocktail shaker and stir or shake well. Fill glass with crushed ice and pour drink over ice.
For the Overachievers:
Prior to filling your glass, take two small shallow plates and pour a few ounces of water one plate and cover the bottom of another plate in coarse sugar (sugar in the raw). Lightly moisten edge of glass in water filled plate and then “rim” the moistened glass edge in the coarse sugar. Pour in your ice and drink and look like a pro! Garnish with a lime round or some skewered mango chunks!

TO UPHOLSTER OR NOT TO UPHOLSTER

Tufted headboard.

There are still some remaining projects around the house since the move. The biggest challenge being the master bedroom. I am a bit embarrassed by its emptiness at the moment thus the reason the door is always closed if company is over. My biggest excuse is the amount of time it took to receive new mattresses. Now that I can't use that anymore it's time to get motivated. New mattresses = new headboard. I've had these photos stashed away for quite some time. I love upholstered headboards, but there are so many options. To buy or DYI, tufted or not, what type of design, and how do you ever narrow down a color? I am inclined to play it safe with a white or cream but then I think how do you clean it properly if it gets dirty or what if I want to use white bedding. I love color. However, color equates committed. There are only so many bedding options you have if you use a bold color choice (unless I used white). I'm digging the green below and the reddish twin beds.

STYLE INSPIRATION: MEN AT FASHION WEEK 2012

New York Fashion Week kicked off last week, and no one captures street style better than Tommy Ton. Looking at these photos takes me back to my time in London last summer where I was almost too busy admiring the dapper men to take in the sights. I have some strange deep rooted love for menswear (especially winter wear) and am quite certain I would be perfectly happy being a personal shopper. I am drawn to the textures, colors, and layers as seen here.

MONDAY QUOTE

I apologize for being a bit MIA. I went home for a long weekend for some much needed family time, fresh air, and catch up sessions with old friends. I tried to squeeze in as much as possible: ice cream with the silly monkey niece, backroads with an old friend, the nephew's basketball game, sharing my bed with the silly monkey, obligatory Mexican food, meeting a friend's new baby girl followed by a quick drink with an old friend, waking up to the silly monkey sharing secrets with me in my bed, home cooked meals with the fam, visiting with the Aunt, a pitstop at the cousin's to meet her new puppy, and wrestle mania with the niece and nephew who were spending one last night to wrap it all up. Driving back this morning I was able to admire a wonderful sunrise, reflect with NPR, absorb the crisp countryside blanketed by frost, and indulge in Chick-Fil-A. Here's to a new week!

STYLE INSPIRATION: NEON

One of spring's hottest color trends is neon. Every label has put their spin on anything from clothing to accessories. What better way to transition out of winter than with a pop of color? As a child of the 80's when I think of neon I am slightly reminded of  big hair and bad clothing choices. However, these images inspire me to incorporate a touch here and there. For me, a little goes a long way. What do you think?
